If you like a bit of history, you’ll like Fremantle. During World War II, Fremantle was the second largest base for Allied submarines during the Pacific military operations. As a result, there still remain numerous sites important to the heritage of Australia such as The Maritime Museum, The Round House (the oldest remaining building in Western Australia), The Fremantle Prison (one of the most well known jails of the British Empire) and the Fremantle History Museum (once the base of the US Navy during World War II). Furthermore, Fremantle is the resting place of AC/DC lead singer Bon Scott and his grave has been listed as a National Heritage Site.
